How To Play?
Welcome to Futera SuSu, the football-inspired trading card game set in a world of rifts, rivalries, and ridiculous skills. Whether you’re building your first squad or battling for the Ligai title, this guide will teach you how to play from start to finish.

1. Build Your Team
To start you must build your team using 11 player cards, following this formation:
-
4 Forwards
-
2 Midfielders
-
4 Defenders
-
1 Goalkeeper
You’ll also select 5 substitutes. These can consist of a mix of any positions except Goalkeeper (even when a goalkeeper loses a duel, they still stay on the pitch). Sub cards are placed face down in your Sub Area. Choose wisely - if you lose a card in a position, your subs could be the difference between winning and losing.
Team Building Tip:
Use players from the same team or include special cards like Local Heroes, Cult Heroes, and Legendary Captains to unlock stat bonuses (see “Loyal Lineup Bonus” below).
2. Game Start:
90-Second Team Lock-In
Once both players are ready, the match begins with a 90-second countdown to place your starting team onto the field.
🧩 Here’s how it works:
-
You have 90 seconds to lay out all 11 of your starting player cards in their correct positions:
▶ 4 Forwards ▶ 2 Midfielders ▶
4 Defenders ▶ 1 Goalkeeper
-
Once a card is placed, it cannot be picked up or moved -
unless it’s been placed in the wrong position category (e.g. a Defender in the Midfield row).
-
When the timer ends, your team setup is locked.
⚠️ Penalties:
-
Picking up or repositioning a card after placement (without position error)
▶ Immediate disqualification
-
Failing to place all 11 cards within
90 seconds▶ Immediate disqualification
🔐 The Rift respects precision. Be fast, be focused, and lock in with confidence.
3. Team Synergy: The Loyal Lineup Bonus
The greatest Ligai champions know one truth:
Stats win duels. Synergy wins tournaments.
You can’t just pick the best cards - they need to play together. That’s where team loyalty comes in.
When you build your squad with players from the same team, they unlock powerful stat boosts - but only if they play in the same position group. Here’s how it works:
Position Group Bonuses (Forwards / Midfielders / Defenders):
-
+2 to stats for each player in a position group
▶ if all players in that group (e.g. all 4 Forwards) are from the same team (i.e. Navy Rovers).
-
+3 to stats if one of those players is also a Local Hero.
-
+4 to stats if one of those players is a Cult Hero.
📝 These bonuses don’t stack — you take the highest applicable bonus for each position group.
Legendary Captain Bonus:
If your team includes a Legendary Captain, all other players from the same team (i.e SuSu City) - regardless of position — receive a +5 stat boost. The Captain also receives +5, but only while at least one other teammate from their team remains on the field.
If all other players from their team are eliminated, the Captain’s boost is lost.
This bonus overrides position grouping and applies across the entire squad for players from that captain’s team.
You may only have one Legendary Captain on the field at any time. Additional Legendary Captains can be placed in your subs, but they cannot enter play unless your active Captain is removed during a duel.
Important:
If you lose a player from a position group, you lose that group’s synergy bonus immediately.
Legendary Captain boosts remain in effect as long as the captain, plus at least one player from the same team, stays in play.
4. Tactic & Referee Cards
These cards represent the unpredictable nature of the Rift - sudden twists, referee decisions, and momentum-shifting plays that can turn the tide of a duel.
Setup:
-
Each player builds a deck of 10 cards - a mix of Tactic and Referee cards in any ratio.
-
Shuffle your deck and draw 5 cards to form your starting hand.
During Play:
-
You may play one Tactic or Referee card per duel.
-
If both players play a card during the same duel, the attacker’s card resolves first.
-
Each card has unique effects - from stat boosts and re-rolls to removing players or rewriting the rules of the round.
Timing is everything. Use your cards wisely - the right play at the right moment can change everything.
5. Starting the Game
To begin the match, randomly decide who will attack first - a coin toss works well.
Opening Possession:
-
Every new possession must start with a Midfielder. No other position can begin play.
-
The attacking player places a Midfielder face up on the field.
-
The defending player must respond with one of their own Midfielders.
Once both cards are revealed, you’re ready to enter the Duel Phase.
From here, it’s a battle of brains, dice, and tactics!
6. Duel Phase — How Duels Work
This is where the action happens - one-on-one battles that decide the flow of the game.
Step 1: Roll the Dice
Both players roll a standard six-sided die (D6).
Step 2: Match the Roll to a Stat
Each number corresponds to one of the six skill categories on your player card:
-
1 = Speed
-
2 = Accuracy
-
3 = Passing
-
4 = Skill
-
5 = Defending
-
6 = Power
Step 3: Compare Stats
Look at the stat on each card that matches the dice roll.
The player with the higher stat wins the duel.
🎯 In a tie? Roll again with the same cards.
🧠 Tactic/Referee cards can be played before or after rolling - read them carefully.
7. Duel Outcomes & Scoring
Every possession is a chance to score - but you’ll need to win three duels in a row to do it:
Midfielder → Forward → Goalkeeper
Duel Results:
-
✅ Attacker wins → Advance to the next phase of the attack
-
❌ Attacker loses → Possession switches to the opponent. Both cards go to the discard/sub area
-
⚔️ Draw → Roll again with the same cards
⚽ Scoring a Goal:
If the attacker wins all three duels in sequence - goal scored!
-
Possession then switches to the opponent
-
🎁 Both players draw 1 new Tactic or Referee card
🧠 Every duel counts. Momentum is everything - lose one step and the chance is gone.
8. Tactic & Referee Cards – Your Game-Changers
Tactic and Referee cards are your secret weapons - surprise moves, momentum shifters, and rule-benders that can turn the tide of a duel.
How They Work:
-
You may play 1 card per round (either a Tactic or a Referee card).
-
If both players play a card in the same round, the attacker’s card resolves first.
-
Each card has its own unique effect - some modify stats, others alter duels, and a few disrupt the entire game flow.
Sample Effects:
-
Red Card – Instantly remove an opponent’s player from the field.
-
Energy Boost – Add +2 to your chosen stat this round.
-
VAR Check – Force a re-roll for both players during a duel.
🧠 Use them wisely. One perfectly timed card can save a game - or win one.
9. Emergency Cover Rule – No Forwards or Defenders Left?
If you lose all your Forwards or Defenders during the match, your Midfielders must step in to cover that position.
But there’s a risk…
❗ If a Midfielder loses a duel while covering another position (e.g. acting as a Defender),
the game ends immediately and you lose 1 point.
Midfielders are your last line of survival.
Lose them carelessly, and the Rift closes on your chances.
10. End of Game
The match ends immediately if:
-
❌ A player loses all their Midfielders
▶ That player loses 1 point and the game ends.
Otherwise, play continues until the agreed time or conditions are met.
Victory Conditions:
-
The player with the most goals scored wins.
-
🎯 If the score is tied (even 0–0), the winner is whoever has the most Midfielders remaining on the field.
⚠️ Midfielders are more than playmakers - they’re your path to victory and your insurance policy.
Final Tips
-
🎭 Tactic cards win games - time them right and flip the match in a heartbeat.
-
🤝 Build around synergy - Loyalty bonuses can create unstoppable momentum.
-
⭐ Legendary Captains aren’t just rare - they’re game changers.
-
🎲 Every duel counts - one mistimed sub, one unlucky roll, and the Rift could take it all.
